Brian Wilson Doc; Femtroopers; Audrey/DC; Friedman; Silent Top Gun
Several things:
- Recently I Netflixed the double-disc set Brian Wilson Presents SMiLE. This is a very interesting story about an unreleased concept album from the late 60s. NPR interviews here, SF Gate article here. Well worth checking out if you are at all interested in the creative process vs. commercial considerations. Also, there's some great material on The Beach Boys (and classic sci-fi, and 1920s Manhattan, and the KGB, and physics, and more) and the theremin in the film Theremin: An Electronic Odyssey.
- Speaking of SF Gate, props for their short article on Femtroopers. This, my friends, is what separates us from the Islamofascists! (Which is funny, because Imperial troopers are kind of symbols of facism to start with. Meh.) Sith Vixen below.
- The ♥G♥ pointed me toward this Audrey Hepburn/Back in Black mashup Gap commercial. Check it out if you haven't seen it already. Too bad she wasn't in a Femtrooper uniform when she did it!
- I started reading Tom Friedman's recent book The World Is Flat the other day. So far so good; I'm a Friedman fan overall. Excerpts, observations, fact-checking, etc. as circumstances warrant.
- From Team Tiger Awesome, here's the classic B&W silent adventure film "Top Gun."
